Correspondence, writings, memoranda, clippings, drawings, and photographs. Approximately half the collection consists of correspondence, 1925 and 1940-1950, between Ricks and his relatives, literary agent Jacques Chambrun, and publishers. Included is correspondence with Burroughs Mitchell of Scribners' relating to the publication of Ricks's novel, "The Hunter's Horn," in 1945. The remainder of the collection consists of typed drafts of short stories and novelettes by Ricks, memoranda, clippings, drawings, and photographs.

Pierson Ricks (1908-1950) was an author, advertising agent, and native of Winston-Salem, N.C. Ricks was the oldest of the four children of David Absalom Ricks and Jessie Pierson Whitaker Ricks. He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School, Winston-Salem, N.C., attended the University of North Carolina, worked at Hanes Knitting Company and at advertising agencies in Philadelphia, Pa., New York, N.Y., and Winston-Salem.
